Chaotic, hectic and yet incredibly endearing - welcome to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam and one of the most important cities in Southeast Asia. Hanoi really is one of a kind. In the confusion of the 5 million scooters, appetizing smells waft out of the many cookshops, historic temples and pagodas open up in the midst of the modern hustle and bustle and everywhere you go you are greeted with a warm smile. From the countless museums, where you can gain a better understanding of the history of the country and the revolution of the war, to the many sights - it won't be long before you succumb to the unique charm of the "City of Lakes".

Rice terraces of Sa Pa
Once you have absorbed all the impressions of the bustling capital, it's time to process them with a little more peace and quiet. The idyllic mountain town of Sa Pa is ideal for this. It is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters in picturesque rice terraces and attracts many hikers and trekking fans due to its unique landscape and relaxed atmosphere.
You have several options for getting here: by overnight train or bus, or you can book a guided 3-day tour directly. Such tours are great if you not only want to enjoy the scenery, but also learn something about the culture of the locals. You will have a special experience if you stay overnight in one of the homestays. Not only will you enjoy fantastic views of the mountains, but you will also gain valuable insights into the lives of friendly host families.
Halong Bay
There are places where you can't believe that this breathtaking sight is really true. On our first visit to Halong Bay, we also had to rub our eyes to understand that the fascinating panorama of glowing turquoise water, azure blue sky and green rocks is not just a dream.
From Hanoi, you can book a day tour or a trip lasting several days. Our tip: a kayak tripwith locals.
Hoi An
It takes less than an hour and a half by plane from Hanoi to Danang. From here, just hop on a bus and you'll be in Hoi An, probably the most enchanting little town in Vietnam, in no time at all. It lies somewhat sleepily on the coast of the South China Sea - roughly in the middle of the country.
As soon as you stand in the colorful alleyways with lanterns, cozy cafés and smiling people, the charm of this special place will take hold of you. You won't doubt for a second why the old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
But it's not just the breathtaking architecture around the Japanese Bridge that is so worth seeing. Bright sandy beaches invite you to relax and swim, street food tours will tantalize your taste buds and you can cycle out into the lush green rice fields.
There is so much to see in Hoi An that we stayed here for a whole week. A great place to stay: Hoi An Chic.
Ho Chi Minh
From Dagang, you can reach Ho Chi Minh City - also known as Saigon - within four hours by plane.
The city in the south is even busier than Hanoi. You may have to get used to the heat, the noise and all the new smells. But as soon as you get used to all these new impressions, you will hardly want to leave.
The best way to start your stay is with a visit to the "Saigon Skydeck". From the 49th floor, you have a 360° panoramic view of the entire city and can get a certain overview. You can look out over the Saigon River, see City Hall, discover Ben Thanh Market and even catch a glimpse of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Mekong Delta
The last destination of our trip through Vietnam is the Mekong Delta. Many tours depart daily from Saigon to take you to this fascinating area of countless canals and rivers. Whether two or three days - the panoramic cruises from Mekong Eyes with short land excursions to small villages, orchards and rice fields are truly wonderful.
The Mekong Delta - also known as the "lifeline of Vietnam" - impresses with its lush green colors, coconut palms, interesting agriculture and lots of jungle feeling. You can sample exotic fruits at floating markets, encounter rare animals on hikes through forests and, if you get into conversation with the locals, you will be gripped by a human warmth that you won't experience anywhere else.
The Mekong Delta really is the perfect place to bring your Vietnam trip to a fitting end before you fly back to Germany from Ho Chi Minh.
